Bruce Pearl - Single Man

Posted by KTB in U.T. Sports

September 10th is the day that Bruce Pearl filed for divorce from his wife of 25 years. MSNBC has a story on it today here.

If you are a wikipedia fan, you can make your own history by editing the Bruce Pearl entry to note this new information. As of 1:43 PM on Sept. 17th, the article has not been edited to reflect this new information on Pearl (it will be soon, and it could be by you).

Divorce is a difficult time, especially for the children. Remember to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Lady Vols Lose World Series to Arizona

Posted by KTB in U.T. Sports

In a disappointing outcome for Tennessee fans, the Arizona Wild Cats shut out Tennessee for the second night in a row to win 5-0 against the Lady Vols.

The Lady Vols had plenty of opportunities leaving runners in scoring position in nearly every inning. The Wildcats pitcher Taryne Mowatt threw a wonderful game with double digit strike-outs for the
second night in a row.

Congratulations to the Wildcats on their 8th World Championship.

Cheers Lady Vols, you represented Tennessee well! We’ll keep our eye out for some of you in the Olympic Games.

Tennessee Lady Vols Softball - Lose To Arizona

The Tennessee Lady Vols lost in a heart-breaker tonight, 1-0 in a game that went to extra innings. Monica Abbott pitched a beautiful game giving up only 1 run in the 10th inning and striking out 11 batters.

The College Softball World Series is now tied 1-1 in a best of three series. Taryne Mowatt was the key player in the Arizona Wildcats win this evening, keeping the Lady Vol hitters at bay, while pitching a shutout.

Arizona is still alive in the women’s College World Series after Tuesday’s pitchers’ duel.

Starter Taryne Mowatt carried the Wildcats, pitching a 10-inning shutout and giving up only 7 hits, as Arizona beat Tennessee 1-0 in the best-of-three series that is now tied at one game a piece.

I have to thank Mrs. Pelot for reminding me this evening about the game. I had forgotten that it was on ESPN tonight and was sitting down to watch my City Council recording and thankfully, she mentioned it at the beginning of the meeting. The down side to that is I never did get around to watching the rest of the City Council meeting.

The final game of the 2007 NCAA Softball World Series will be tomorrow night at 7 PM on ESPN2 (in HD). Be sure to tune in and cheer for the Lady Vols who are trying to win their first NCAA Championship. Try sending them an email too! Read more about the game from utladyvols.com.

Pat Summit Cheerleader For Bruce Pearl

Posted by KTB in U.T. Sports

If you couldn’t make it to the UT Vols game tonight and didn’t get to watch it on TV, here is the ESPN coverage (with terrible announcing) of Pat Summit Cheerleading for Bruce Pearl’s Vols Basketball Team in their 86 - 76 win over the Florida Gators.

Thompson Boling Arena seats 24,535 and was nearly full. Notable personalities included Peyton Manning and Volunteers football coach Phillip Fulmer.

Knoxville Men’s Basketball - UT vs UK

Posted by KTB in U.T. Sports

Coach Bruce Pearl pulled off an exciting victory over the Kentucky Wildcats tonight with the final score 89 - 85. Chris Loften was clutch scoring 23 points in the game and making 5-of-6 free throws in the final 29.5 seconds of the game. The freshman combo of Duke Crews (18 points) and Wayne Chism (16 points) aided Loften in the victory over Kentucky.

It was a great evening to be at a University of Tennessee Basketball game with the “Paint the Town Orange” promotion and a halftime ceremony to retire No. 53 worn by former All-American and NBA All-Star Bernard King. The fans showed up to fill the stadium and show tremendous support for the UT Basketball team. The Tennessee team took the lead early and never looked back. The next game is Saturday at 7 PM against South Carolina.

Bruce Pearl As V - Lady Vols vs. Duke

Posted by KTB in U.T. Sports

Bruce Pearl got painted up as a V to cheer on the U.T. Lady Vols against who were playing the No. 1 ranked Duke Blue Devils. I have a lot of respect for Pearl who even had the courtesy to leave the court before the game started to avoid being a distraction to players and fans.

I would venture to say most college basketball coaches are to concerned about their public image to come out shirtless to a womans basketball game.

Unfortunately all of the hype surrounding the game may have been a stumbling block to the Lady Vols in their 74-70 loss to Duke.
