KTB - Week In Recap

Posted by KTB in Bag Of Crap

This week has been extremely busy and hence there have been a lack of posts from me.  I want to recap my week and although it won’t make up for the lack of daily reading hopefully you’ll find it interesting enough to forgive my absence.

I’ll start out with my two trips to Dollywood where I, of course, rode the new Mystery Mine Ride and an additional trip to Dollywood’s Splash Country.  Splash Country is a lot like wet and wild but on a smaller scale which also includes shorter lines.  If you haven’t yet been to Splash Country plan a date this summer to visit, it’s a blast.  I’ll also mention that a trip to Dollywood wouldn’t be the same without a visit to the famous Apple Barn Restaurants in Pigeon Forge.

Next up was my trip to Johnson City to visit a customer of the company that currently provides me with a regularly scheduled paycheck.  I don’t know much about Johnson City other than ETSU, but maybe some of the Johnson City locals can fill us in about what all goes down in JC.

I do have one word for Knoxvillians headed up to Johnson City, and that is Cheddar’s.  The Texas based restaurant chain has unbelievably good food at a very reasonable price.  The service is great at the Johnson City location as well.  I could write a book about my experience at Cheddars and on how well it would do in Turkey Creek but I’ll save that for another time.

Next up, my other job.  What you are looking at is a picture of a GPS/Cell phone module and a 900 mhz radio.  I picked up this project last week and have been working on it in the evenings which has cut into my blogging time.  The project involves writing some small python scripts to relay position data through the Internet communicating status information from the other radio.  I haven’t quite got this working yet but hopefully I won’t be to much longer without my dining room table.

Finally, another blogging site I contribute to saw a big change this week with a new upgrade to Community Server 2007.  In addition, it received a new layout (look and feel) that is much cleaner compared to the previous version. Two big online games recently came to a close,  Volvo’s The Hunt just finished up as well as the Jamestown 400 Treasure Hunt.  These two scavenger hunts helped push traffic for the month of May (at the other blogging site) up to 68,590 visits and 1 million + page views.

Of course it also pushed the hosting bill up to $300+ (ouch) for the month. I am currently looking for a few sponsors to help offset costs, so if you or someone you know might be interested in advertising on a Website please use the contact form on this blog to let me know.

All in all it has been a busy week, but I’m still alive even if I’m in the weeds.  I hope to get back to my regular posting schedule in the next few weeks.  I am also making this post from a neat piece of software called Windows Live Writer.  I’ve known about this software for a while but just decided to try it out tonight for the first time.  I like it and I’ll probably end up writing a post about it soon.  Cheers!
